Author and music executive Nabil Ayers will speak on the intersection of family, music and race at [location] on [date].
Ayers’ memoir, My Life in the Sunshine (Viking) details his struggle to connect with his father, famed vibraphonist and jazz musician Roy Ayers. The book includes stories about growing up as a biracial kid with a single mother, living in Seattle in the ‘90s and touring in rock bands, and how a job in a record store led him to become president of the U.K.-based record company Beggars Group, which represents The National, Radiohead, Adele and many others.
Ayers has written about race and music for the New York Times, Pitchfork, NPR’s Code Switch, GQ and Rolling Stone. Copies of My Life in the Sunshine will be available for sale, and Ayers will sign them after the talk.
